- ‘Now You Do’
- ‘Great’ feat. Casey Veggies & Mac Miller
After releasing the leftovers of Premier Politics earlier this year with his acclaimed tape Premier Politics 1.5, Sir Michael Rocks is back with his newest LP, Lap Of Lux. Although many still recognize Rocks as half of the duo The Cool Kids, his newest mixtape should further enhance his talents as a solo artist. The tape includes a variety of subject material, guest features and production from many different producers. While the tracks on Premier Politics 1.5 had more of a chill, relaxing vibe, Rocks takes a new approach on his latest work and includes some dynamic and energetic songs for his fans to enjoy.
A Lana Del Rey sample in the very first track sets the mood for the remainder of the tape. Produced by Flosstradamus, ‘Now You Do’ is essentially Rocks’ reminder to his listeners and other artists in the game about the lifestyle that he lives. The subject matter of women isn’t dismissed and can be heard in tracks such as ‘Reservations’ and ‘Great’, both uniquely placed on beats by producer Cardo. Of course, Mikey Rocks doesn’t forget to include his other half and goes in on a typical “Cool Kids” beat produced by Chuck Inglish entitled ‘Good Sushi.’
As stated before, Rocks uses his fourth solo mixtape to develop his style while still keeping the same consistency he had while he was creating music with Inglish. Despite how successful the tape will be or the fluidity of the project, the only downfall Mikey has on the tape is his use of autotune. His track ‘In The Loop’ is the only completely autotuned song on the tape, but Rocks still includes the digital sounds on other songs including ‘Connect’ and ‘You Know What.’
Overall, despite his use of autotune, Lap Of Lux is a good project from start to finish. The Jet Life recording artist uses the laidback style of his record label while simultaneously incorporating the funky grooves of his previous music with The Cool Kids. With no word of when an album will be released, Sir Michael Rocks’ fans will definitely be able to satisfy their longing for his music with this tape.
